How amazingly gorgeous is this stone? Until recently, I had never heard of Scolecite! The chatoyancy in this stone gives the typically white scolecite bands of peach. The 38mm x 25mm cabochon has been bezel set in .999 fine silver and set on a sterling silver back plate. The back plate has been textured with a hammer and a stardust finish has been given to the pendant. This pendant comes on an 18 inch sterling silver chain.
In gemology, chatoyancy, or chatoyance or cat's eye effect, is an optical reflectance effect seen in certain gemstones. Please note that Scolecite is 5-5.5 on the Mohs Scale. The Mohs scale of mineral hardness (/moʊz/) is a qualitative ordinal scale, from 1 to 10, characterizing scratch resistance of various minerals through the ability of harder material to scratch softer material. Diamonds are 10 on the scale. Take care as gems with lower Mohs will scratch easier than those with higher.
